Algerian Silicon Valley Diaspora In Algiers To Promote Young Innovators

Forty Algerian researchers and engineers from the famous technopolis of San Francisco, Silicon Valley will travel in next February in Algiers for the setting up of a project accompanying Algerian start-ups (innovative companies).

Algeria Ambassador to Washington, Abdallah Baali, said the visit of the aforementioned researchers will be an occasion to hold a conference which is to gather representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Post, Information and Telecommunication Technologies, the National Employment Support Agency, local banks, and the Silicon Valley delegation.

Algeria Diaspora is to mark its participation with researchers and engineers, the majority of whom are serving at US based firms, including Apple, Google, Oracle and Intel, in addition to others who run their own high-tech firms, including Pr Belkacem Haba, nicknamed “the man with 200 patents.”

Ismail Chikhoune, head of the Algeria-US Business Council stated that this two-day conference will discuss a medium and long term roadmap for the promotion of the role of Algerian start-ups, either those already in service, or those which are yet to be created.

Mr Chikhoune said 15 Algerian start ups have been selected after the visit paid by representatives of the US Secretary of State and US young entrepreneurs on October to the North African nation, specifying that a young applicant from Djelfa University was ultimately selected and offered a scholarship in the University of Detroit.
