Algerian-Turkish Rapprochement On Libya and Mali Crises
Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum, visiting Ankara, met Tuesday with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, with whom he discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
“These talks enabled the two ministers to have an in-depth exchange on the state and prospects of bilateral relations. As such, they both hailed the dynamic that characterizes the Algerian-Turkish relations, and stressed the commitment of both countries to further diversify them by exploiting all the potentialities and opportunities offered on both sides to promote a broad partnership between the two countries,” said the same source.
The exchanges between the Heads of Diplomacy of the two countries “have also provided an opportunity to continue the political dialogue on regional and international issues of common concern.
In this context, the situation in Libya was raised to stress the need for a political solution based on dialogue and reconciliation between all Libyans, and free from any foreign interference, as the only way to preserve the unity and integrity of Libya”.
“Both sides also discussed the situation in Mali, stressing the need to accompany this brotherly and neighboring country in this difficult period it is going through,” it added.
At the end of the discussions, the two ministers “agreed to continue their joint efforts to develop bilateral relations and political dialogue between Algeria and Turkey,” the MFA concluded.
Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, visiting Ankara, was received Tuesday in audience by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to whom he conveyed a message from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this occasion, Mr. Boukadoum briefed President Erdogan on “the results of his discussions with his counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, as well as the cooperation actions on the bilateral agenda, particularly on the investment and trade component,” the statement said.
President Erdogan, noted the same source, “expressed satisfaction at the positive developments in Algerian-Turkish relations by reiterating his personal commitment to further strengthen them, including in the field of investment, in the mutual interest of both countries”.
“Regional and international issues of common concern were also on the agenda of this encounter, particularly the situation now prevailing in Mali and Libya, where the Algerian position on the need to give priority to dialogue and political solutions to the crises in the region was reiterated,” according to the same source, which stressed that President Erdogan had instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to convey to President Tebboune, his “fraternal greetings and his wish to receive him on an official visit to Turkey.
