Algerians Can Import Cars -3-Year-Old Every 3 Years Under New Conditions

A regulatory decree will soon be issued specifying the method, conditions and modalities for importing cars less than 3 years, as stipulated by the Finance Law for 2020, which entered into force starting from the current January, after its official issuance in the Official Gazette.

Algerians will be allowed to import these cars through the amounts available in their accounts in hard currency once every 3 years, at a time when dealers and importers with commercial records will be excluded from this decision.

According to the statement of the General Directorate of Customs, a joint ministerial decision is being prepared to specify the modalities for the application of the import of cars -3 years old which is authorized by the Finance Law for 2020.

A statement of the General Directorate of Customs said that the modalities for applying this procedure will be revealed soon, by defining the method of monitoring the conformity of used tourist cars that will be imported, and the same statement added: “The method is determined by a joint decision between the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Finance and Mines, which is currently being prepared for publication in the Official Gazette”.

As stipulated by the Finance Law 2020, Article 110 of the import of tourist cars that are less than three years old and that are imported by the private residents once every three years, at the expense of their funds in their balance in foreign currency that was opened in Algeria. The Finance Law for 2020 allows importing cars with oil or diesel engines, provided that the environmental standards are respected.

The car prices witnessed a record increase during the past 3 years due to the scarcity of vehicles, despite the installation of projects that were released starting from the year 2014, and this is due to the high price of the locally produced car, which exceeds the price of the car that was previously imported from abroad.

The scarcity of new vehicles in the market has also increased, due to the corruption cases that were recently uncovered and which led to the entry of several car dealers to prison, in addition to stopping the import of “SKD” and “CKD” equipment starting from July 2019, and the mystery that the country as a whole was witnessing before the presidential elections.

It is expected that the market will witness a soon relief after the resumption of economic activity normally following the official appointment of the new government’s ministers, and handing over and receiving their tasks on Saturday, with the start of vehicles less than 3 years old entering the Algerian market, as it relies heavily on them to break prices in the national market, knowing that the price of vehicles with the numbering of 2017 ranges between 9,000 euros and 15,000 for European cars, and more expensive for luxury cars.
