Algerians carried out 49 suicide bombings killing 616 soldiers, policemen, says US report
According to a report just issued by the US high military command in Iraq, Algerians were directly involved in a spate of suicide bombings in several parts of Iraq over the 2006-2007 period causing 616 dead and 1130 wounded including soldiers, policemen and Iraqi civilians.
The report of which Echorouk newspaper got a copy says that hundreds of US troops were slain in these suicide bombings carried out by what it calls œderanged youth hailing from destitute familiesÂ.
Most of these suicide bombers came from Arab countries including Algeria , Palestine , Morocco , Syria , and Libya . They swore allegiance to the Al Qaeda terror group based in Iraq .
According to the report, 90% of the suicide bombings perpetrated in Iraq since 2004 were the work of foreigners.
Confessions and avowals made by prisoners held in Iraqi jails indicate that the age of these suicide bombers varies between 18 and 30.
The Algerian suicide bombers, said the report, carried out their deadly attacks in several Iraqi cities notably in Baqouba, Bagdad , Ramadi, Mosoul and Kirkouk.
