Algerians’ quota among 100,000 “French nationalities” per year

The French government took new measures to ease getting nationality for foreigners including Algerian nationals. Thousands of Algerians who have temporary job contracts and students will get French nationality.

France’s Interior Minister Manuel Valls announced on Wednesday that the number of people gaining French nationality in the last year has risen by 14 percent.

“French nationality should not be sold off or reserved for the elite,” he said.

Valls also said his government will scrap the multiple-choice history and culture test that was introduced under Sarkozy but never implemented.

A rule that applicants had to have a permanent job (CDD) before they would be considered was also scrapped.

The rules state that applicants must have a certain level of French language ability. Algerians have large chances as they have a good command of the language.
