The head of government Adellaziz Belkhadem is slated to reply on Thursday to the Algerian parliamentarians’queries about the dangerousness of hundreds of public and private buildings built, over the past years, on the layout of thousands of kilometres of gas and oil pipings in various parts of the country.

All of these buildings were built haphazardly without a prior ground study by the relevant technical services.

According to a joint report worked out by Sonatrach and the housing ministry, this latent danger could cause a major catastrophe at any moment in case of any gas-linked incident.

To this effect, the national hydrocarbons company Sonatrach has proposed to unlock an 8 billion dollar financial package to examine how best to remedy the situation as part of a 2 year plan of action aimed at upgrading the security of the southern oil and gas pipelines bound for the northern part of the country.
