Algeria’s firm commitment to the liberation movements is a sacred matter, the former Algerian diplomat and former assistant secretary-general of the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union), Noureddine Djoudi, said, Saturday, on the 42nd death anniversary of the former President Houari Boumediene.

“The late President Houari Boumediene considered that Algeria’s support for liberation movements is a sacred duty, especially in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle and peoples under the colonialism and racial discrimination in Africa”, Noureddine Djoudi added in a seminar under the slogan “Houari Boumediene and the Liberation Movements” organized by the Mishaal Al-Shaheed Association, in coordination with the Culture Palace, Moufdi Zakaria.

“These positions are fixed for Algeria and the late president Houari Boumediene was inspired by our ancestors”.

“The late president was keen to consolidate Algeria’s constant values among Algerian diplomats, in support of all liberation movements, whether in Africa or Asia and up to the liberation movement in East Timor, despite the friendship between Algeria and Indonesia”.

Incidentally, Noureddine Djoudi, who is Algeria’s first ambassador to South Africa, asserted that the late Boumediene made the sanctity of the liberation of Palestine and all African countries that live under colonialism and racial discrimination a constant goal after the independence of Algeria, and explained that Boumediene always repeated that there was a second holy war, which is the liberation of Africa and Palestine”.

“Boumediene confirmed that Algeria is an integral part of the struggle in Africa and refused to utter the term aid to Africa that was being praised by many countries”.

In this regard, he mentioned, “the support that was provided by Algeria to the liberation movements in Mozambique by training the 200 soldiers of its army by the ANP forces, and the liberation movement in Angola”, praising Boumediene’s “enthusiasm for supporting the liberation of all countries that suffered from colonialism and racial discrimination, recalling Algeria’s position in supporting South Africa at the United Nations.

On the way, diplomat Noureddine Djoudi affirmed that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, adheres to Algeria’s firm stance in support of just causes, especially the Palestinian cause, and is “following in the same footsteps as the late President Boumediene”.

Regarding the Sahrawi issue, Djoudi recalled the decision taken by the King of Morocco, Hassan II, and his firm commitment to organizing a referendum to determine the fate of the Sahrawi people. At that time – Djoudi said – “I was Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity and a group of African heads of states and governments congratulated the Moroccan King when he said.” I officially accept the organization of the referendum for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people”.

In the end, Djoudi mentioned the late President Houari Boumediene’s quote in an interview with the French newspaper “Le Monde”, as saying; “there are only two countries that do not recognize the existence of borders between states, the Zionist entity and Morocco”, and, “We are with Palestine oppressor or oppressed. Algeria will maintain its principles regardless of the price”.
