Three bidders out of 15 have been selected to contest for snatching the deal of constructing the Grand Mosque of Algiers, Minister of Religious Affairs, Bouabdallah Ghlamallah said on Saturday.

The three contenders are an Italian-Lebanese consortium (between Astaldi and the Arabian Construction Company), an Algerian-Spanish consortium (ETRHB -COSIDER-FCC) and a Chinese firm (China State Construction).

The bids of the aforementioned firms have been considering valid for the tender for the construction of Algiers’ Grand Mosque, as the commission in charge of assessing the bids is due to announce the company that will be awarded the deal as by later August.

However, the official has avoided setting a deadline for the end of the works which have been announced in 2004.

This billion-project will be built on a surface area of 20 hectares, in the locality of Mohamadia, in the eastern outskirts of Algiers, and will have a capacity of 120000 worshippers.

To recall, the government allocated about 1 billion Euros to construct this largest religious monument in the region.
