Ambitious project in the offing to prevent flooding risks in Algeria
The water resources ministry has launched a brand new project which consists in providing the 1541 municipalities across the country with special maps to prevent them from flooding in addition to the adoption of a new system based on cutting –edge technologies to reduce flooding risks by 90%.
Meanwhile, figures reveal that nearly 1000 municipalities are subjected to inundations compared to 600 last year.
Reliable sources have revealed to Echorouk that the ministry has launched the program in coordination with the Algerian Space Agency in order to draw up a cartography of the risky zones over the country and forwarded to the local authorities.
The survey should be completed within a year, it said.
The project managers consider that project could be an appropriate means to take efficient measures and curb flooding risks in the future especially that it will be associated to a brand new draining system for rivers.
Flooding have claimed lives of hundreds of Algerians and material damage in Algeria over the last few years.
