Arab women leaders resilient to safeguard their achievements
The latest events that swept through some Arab nations known, as “ The Arab spring” were at the center of the discussions during the fifth session of the supreme Council of the Arab Woman Organization held here in Algiers.

Most of the participants praised the role played by women during the events .

But they warned against the precarious conditions of the Arab women and any form of recuperation of the achievements acquired so far by this category thanks to the Arab spring at the political level, media coverage and freedom of expression.

The participants expressed concern over the marginalization again of women by the new spheres of power that sprang in the wake of the Arab spring, knowing that fought hand in hand with men to clinch the privilege to take part to the political life of their countries.

Some of them added that despite the troubles occurring in their countries, they will prevail and still can safeguard their rights more than ever.

The Libyan, Tunisian and Moroccan representatives have asserted that the Arab spring has shed light on various violations of women rights by the former totalitarian regimes.

Put under the aegis of the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the forum saw the participation of Lebanon, Sudan, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, Oman, UAE and the women ministers from Tunisia, Libya and Morocco.
