Arbi Ould Khalifa likely to Chair the National People's Council
National People’s Council holds its first public session here on Saturday, marking the launch of the Seventh legislative custody, in accordance with Article113 of the Constitution, which recorded a violation, because it should have been started on the tenth day following the elections, while the National Liberation Front decided to choose one candidate for chairing the council, who is the representative of Souk Ahras, Rashid Heraoubia, as the for doors for the deposit of nominations for the presidency of the People’s National Council will remain open to all parties, whatever their color and size without negelecting the right of Liberal MPs.
Secretary-General of FLN, Abdelaziz Belkhadem rushed to hold a consultative coordination meeting on Friday at the lower chamber with party’s deputies, in order to sellect a candidate for the presidency of the Council, and how to deal with it in the parliament, as the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Rachid Heraoubia, reached during the coordination meeting, a consensus on his candidacy, after the top of Algiers list, Arbi Ould Khlifa became his concurrent for the position of chair, before the party won 208 seats in parliament.
FLN, which chose its candidate for presidency of the Council, used the same method that had previously adopted in 2007 elections, when it chose Abdelaziz Ziari at the expense of the former Algeria Ambassador to Mali, Abdelkarim Gharib, but this selection backed by 208 votes, not to mention 68 seats for RND, will not cut the way for the parties wishing to choose candidates for the position of president of the lower chamber.
