Association demands death penalty against children sexual abusers

After registering more than 10 thousand cases of molestation against minors over the year 2011, some 150 associations have called on issuing death penalty against individuals found guilty of sexual assaults on children instead of five years imprisonment.

• The request aims at curbing this phenomenon that destroys the lives of thousands of families in Algeria and cause irreparable moral damage to the children.

• The chairman of the Algerian Children Association “ Nadaa” Abderrehman Aaraar, has yesterday declared to Echourouk that he was in favor of a the implementation of death penalty against anyone found guilty of sexual assault on children, even if the culprit is a member of the same family.

• He has further indicated that 80% of the cases occur within the same family, lashing out at the judges that issue light sentences against the wrongdoers which doesn’t exceed 5 years at maximum.

• M Aaraar has noted that his association has received 13 thousand complaints pertaining to assaults against children including molestation and sexual harassments over the year 2011.
