Bad Weather: Hundreds Forced Out, Road Accidents Kill 13

Hundred people were trapped in villages due to heavy snow that poured on eastern regions on Wednesday, blocking several roads and provoking some traffic jams and road accidents in some localities western the country, leaving 7 dead, in the two last days.

 

This wave of bad weather is yet to continue hitting the North African nation in the two upcoming days, weather forecasts said. 

Heavy rains are expected to pour on northern region, including over the provinces of Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Bouira, Algiers, Blida, Medea and Tipaza, while snows are to fall in interior region, notably over 900 m altitudes, forecasts specified. 

Many villages in upper Setif province were isolated by heavy snows that reached 20 cm thick, noting that several dwellers called up Echorouk office saying they are run out of gas, and urged authorities to come for their help. 

Heavy snows have also blocked national road n 5 and provincial road n 43, cutting off several villages in the mountains of the province of Bordj Bou Arreridj.    

Elsewhere, in Ain Sefra locality in Naama province, a serious road accident occurred due to the bad weather on the night of Sunday to Monday leaving two dead and injuring three others, when a car crashed on roadblock. 

In Tlemcen, three members of the same family died when their cars crashed on the highway, while a buffering of 4 cars injured one driver, due to the slippery road.   

In Laghouat, 6 people of the same family died too, when the car they were in collided with a bus, while in Oran, a deadly road accident left 2 dead and 4 injured when two cars collided.
