“Ban on street prayers in France”: Mr. Driencourt's explanations

The Ambassador of France in Algeria, his Excellency, Mr. Xavier Driencourt, has buttressed the recent decision taken by the French authorities to ban the Muslims' prayers in the streets throughout France.

•  The French diplomat justified the French authorities’ decision by the lessening in the number of youth in France embracing Christianity compared to the strong dynamics witnessed by the religion of Islam in France.

• Taking the floor on Monday during a press conference in the city of Relizane in western Algeria, Mr Xavier Driencourt indicated that Christianity was witnessing a steady regression among the French population notably among the youth.

• Evoking the Arab revolutions, notably in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Syria, the French Ambassador pointed out that the situation in Algeria was quite different adding that France would always be by the side of Algeria.
