Algerian Minister of the Interior and Local Assemblies, Tayeb Belaiz, has affirmed that those parties advocating the boycott of next April’s presidential elections won’t be allowed to sow confusion and ill-feeling with the aim of disrupting the smooth running of the upcoming electoral contest.

Mr Tayeb Belaiz told the press Tuesday on the sidelines of a plenary session of the council of the nation or upper house of parliament that these boycotting parties were not entitled by virtue of the laws and regulations to disrupt the good running of the forthcoming electoral contest.

He emphasized that these parties through their boycott decision should steer clear of the electoral process notably by refraining from marring the election campaign which will concern only the registered candidates vying for the presidential rostrum.

Mr Tayeb Belaiz pointed out, to this effect, that the boycott call from these parties had not been generally heeded as the number of candidates for next April’s presidential race is on the increase with more and more of them heaving for the Interior and local assemblies ministry to get the proper registrations.

In a separate file related to the fight against bureaucracy, Mr Tayeb Belaiz indicated that the government had decided to enforce a set of stringent measures to guarantee to the citizens an efficient and transparent public service in order to stamp out the nefarious plague of bureaucracy and red tape in the country’s administrative bodies.

He said that the move was in consistence with the instructions and guidelines issued by the head of state, Abdellaziz Bouteflika, during a recently – held council of ministers’ meeting.
