Bill: Smoking While Driving to Be Prohibited in Algeria

Ministry of Transport is working on drawing up an executive decree bill that prohibits smoking while driving, as part of the government policy aiming at curbing road accidents which kill 4000 people a year in Algeria.

 

A source within THE Ministry of Transport told Echorouk reporter that the aforementioned bill stipulates withdrawing the driving license and imposing a 4000 DZD (40 Euros) fine, on any driver caught smoking while driving a car.

The source said that 84 percent of road accidents in Algeria are provoked by the human factor, stressing that using the mobile phone and smoking while driving are proved among causes of car accidents.

It is worth to mention that an average of 80 people die every week in roads, making of the North African nation in the third  sport worldwide in terms of death toll of road accidents, by 4000 victims annually.
