Algerian authorities forces stepped up security measures on the Boufarik air military base on Tuesday ahead of the arrival of a presidential plane carrying President Abdelaziz Bouteflika from France to Algiers.

The route to the base was blocked as the National Gendarmerie forces set up check points and did not give any information to journalists. A senior gendarme asked them to leave. “I don’t know who would come today. Please, leave and don’t ask questions.”

A large number of presidential security guards wearing dark classic clothes with their black cars. They kept watch on cars while policemen and gendarmes were inspecting some cars.

Three luxury cars came escorted by security guards. It is believed that they were carrying senior officials who came to receive the president although his plane was not seen.

At 3:30 pm, an official cortege of 20 luxury cars left the air base. Journalists thought President Bouteflika left the place as they heard rumors about a helicopter arrival to carry him.  Five minutes later, two four-wheel drives left. It is believed that one of them carried the president.
