Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika called on the national army to preserve Algeria’s safety and stability and to protect its sovereignty and independence in all the “circumstances.”

In a letter addressed to the army on the occasion of graduation at the military academy in Cherchel, Bouteflika stressed the necessity of being very vigilant to face all the threats including terrorism.

“Our world requires from you soldiers to make big efforts to pursue your national and constitutional responsibilities and protect Algeria’s sovereignty and national independence in all the circumstances,” said the letter.

The president warned against hitting Algeria’s sovereignty and unity, stressing the necessity of fighting terrorism and dismantling its networks.

“Our army can face the big challenges in our region including the Sahel. Because of that, we have to be very vigilant.”

Bouteflika described the army’s missions as “great,” saying they get greater in current difficult times in the world. “People’s sovereignty, safety, stability and national independence are now exposed to real threats and big dangers.”

He also stressed the necessity of developing the armed forces’ capacity more than ever to accomplish their constitutional missions.

He ordered the army to be vigilant to face all the threats.

President Bouteflika asked Army Chief of Staff General Ahmed Gaid Salah to bring to him a video about the graduation ceremony at the military academy, Echorouk has learnt from high-ranking officers.
