Brexit: MEPs Approve Agreement For UK’s Withdrawal From The EU

The European Parliament finally approved, here on Wednesday, the Brussels and London agreement on UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.

President of the European parliament, David Sassoli, announced the result of the vote, with 621 in favour to 38 against with 13 abstentions, MEPs stood almost as one to approve the agreement for UK’s withdrawal from the EU.

The approval of the deal, on Wednesday’s parliamentary session, required a simple majority of the members of the European Parliament, after the document obtained the approval of the Special Committee for Constitutional Affairs in Parliament.

The last step for the European Union’s ratification of the Brexit Agreement is expected to be taken during a European Council vote on January 30.

The British Parliament approved the draft law on Brexit conditions on January 22, when the House of Lords was forced to approve the document after the House of Commons rejected all the proposed amendments regarding the deal.

The legislation provides for Britain to leave the European Union on January 31, to begin a transitional period during which the two parties will conduct trade negotiations.
