CEO of Air Algerie flagship carrier, Mohamed Salah Boultif has rejected on Wednesday the 106% salary increase being claimed by cabin crew, saying the state owned company is only capable to assure a 20 % hike.

Such a statement has come a day before the talks between Air Algerie head office and representatives of the cabin crew.

Mr Boultif has been quoted by APS news agency as saying that “What matters in these talks is to preserve the financial balance of the company,” adding that the current budget is hardly covering salaries of the 9400 employees, amid drop in air traffic.

He mentioned that the revision of employees’ status and gradual wage increase in conformity with international standards is likely to be continued until the end of the year.

Mr Boultif further indicated that the steward or stewardess could not have the same wage as the captain. “It’s unacceptable,” Air Algerie boss concluded.
