CAF Challenges FIFA And Continues On The Path Of Reforms

In an official statement, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was quick to respond to the allegations which talked about the existence of financial corruption cases involving a number of its leaders, headed by Ahmed Ahmed, the head of the “CAF” Confederation.

The CAF statement said: “We’ll continue to pursue the structural reforms of the Confederation of African Football, despite attempts to derive the adverse process spearheaded by certain media, stressing the CAF Executive Committee reserves the right to take legal action against all authors of the recent baseless allegations, as circulated in the press and on social media.

It added: “The CAF Executive Committee agreed to launch a general audit of financial accounts on April 11th, because it is aware of the shortcomings in managing the affairs of the African football Confederation, after the administrative legacy of more than 30 years”.

Thus, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced in a press release the meeting of its executive committee on 14 February to launch its roadmap 2020-2021.

This meeting will take into account the “various recommendations” made in the sense of “accelerating the reforms initiated”.

“Several structural measures had been taken before and during the six-month partnership with FIFA, and these measures concern both governance and the day-to-day management of CAF’s affairs,” the statement said.

“We will therefore continue on this path of reform and bring CAF up to the best international standards,” the same source added.

It further stressed that “the change in the management after several decades of makeshift management cannot be achieved in a few weeks, and the executive committee is determined to finalize the transformation of CAF during its term of office”.

“Aware of the shortcomings in the management of the affairs of CAF, a legacy of a “family” management of more than 30 years, the Executive Committee had endorsed the launch of a general audit on 11 April 2019,” it stated.

CAF also recalled that it was its Executive Committee that “asked FIFA to put in place a six-month partnership to accelerate the reforms undertaken”.
