Cameroon’s Advisor on Counterterrorism Visits Algeria

Major General Robin Searby, the UK PM David Cameroon’s adviser on counter-terrorism for North Africa, has started a two day visit to Algeria, and yet to hold talks with Algerian officials.

A statement issued by the UK Embassy in Algeria, of which Echorouk got a copy, reads that the visit of Major General Robin Searby aims at making the accent on the important bilateral relations between Algeria and the UK in terms of counterterrorism and other security issues.

The statement added that terror threat in the African Sahel is getting more serious, stressing that Algeria plays a key role in counterterrorism in the region. The source further praised the efforts of Algeria regarding the setting up a joint army command of the Sahel countries to secure the region.

The UK and Algeria share the same view regarding the ban of the payment of ransoms to terror groups, the statement reads, adding that Britain looks forward boosting these relations with Algerian authorities, ahead of next September busy schedule, which sees Algiers hosting a series of meetings, including a one on partnership in the Sahel region, and another one on the annual counterterrorism meeting between Algeria and Britain.
