Canal+ Challenges the Investigation on the Killing of 7 French Monks of Tibhirine

French Canal + TV station is to air a documentary about the case of the killed 7 French Monks later March 1996 in upper Medea province.

Journalist Jean-Baptiste Rivoire’s “Special Investigation” evokes on Monday the issue of the 7 French Monks who were kidnapped from Tibhirine Monstery in March 1996 and then killed two months later.

Mr Rivoire says he has collected new testimonies on the preparations of that operation, noting that this same journalist will release, two days later, a book entitled “Tibhirine Crime: Uncover the Responsible.”

The journalist tends to challenge the outcomes of the investigation opened in 2004, and which concluded that the Islamist Armed Group (GIA) was behind the crime, a conclusion confirmed by former French Interior Minister, current President, Nicolas Sarkozy, during the visit he conducted to Tibhirine Monastery, when he clearly said: “the Monks were killed by extremist terrorists.”
