Catholic Church reaches out to Muslim community in North Africa
The North African Catholic Churches Council has blamed the Algerian authorities for oppressing religious freedoms and denounced what they consider as obstacles against the Christian delegations.

However, they have called on charity groups affiliated to the church to foster their bonds with the Muslim community and help the refugees and prisoners.

The French Press Agency quoted the council’s communiqué saying “ We deplore the bureaucratic hurdles imposed on the clerics to get visas for the Algerian territory”.

The council has further indicated in the communiqué that a large number of clerics are denied visas regardless of their nationalities, despite the fact that the Catholic community stands as the only one that has been acknowledged by the Algerian authorities among the others.

These accusations came in the wake of a meeting held in the Tunisian capital that brought together the North African clerics where several issues pertaining to socio- political conditions of this community were discussed.

Algeria has been represented by the Jordan cleric Ghaleb Badr during this meeting.
