Chakib Khelil ordered to exempt Brown and ROOT Condor from taxes
Brown and Root Condor (BRC) did not pay taxes although it won tens of projects in hydrocarbons, health, hotel trade, airport, construction, oil service and transport sectors, Echorouk has learnt.
The company was directly protected by Algeria’s former energy Chakib Khelil as it did not pay its taxes and benefited from 90 percent discount.
According to the same sources, official reports were sent to concerned authorities but no legal reply was made. The Public Treasury lost billions of dollars due to tax evasion from BRC as it was protected by Khelil.
The company thought tax evasion-related information was hidden by former tax officials and executives at Algeria’s energy group Sonatrach.
Tax department can not recover its financial rights as the company was dissolved in mysterious circumstances in 2007 by the government.
Earlier in December 2006, a terrorist attack was carried out on a bus carrying BRC’s employees in Bouchaoui area in Algiers killing two of them and wounding many others.
After BRC came Italy’s Saipem which won $10 billion deals in three years.
