Chakib Khelil: “This Is How We Planned To Nationalize Algerian Hydrocarbons”

Former Energy Minister, Chakib Khelil, spoke on Saturday, for the first time, about the nationalization of hydrocarbons, and revealed the secrets of the process of nationalization, and how it was done, the way the team of engineers who were accompanied by foreign engineers from Russia, Palestine, Iran and America to control the process, and the manner they reached information that enabled them to make the nationalization process a success.
Chakib Khelil said, in a video that was posted on his official Facebook page: “Before I took the decision, we were familiar with all the fields, and we gathered all the necessary information and studied it with experts in America, and we conducted independent studies with other consultants”.
He also confirmed that he returned to Algeria before the nationalization of hydrocarbons by about a month, and that he was the first head of the oilfields of Sonatrach in 1971.
Chakib Khelil, the former Energy Minister, said that “the French engineers, before leaving Algeria, tried to take all the information and obliterate all the relevant information about the available fields and wells, because without the information, the fields can not be run.”
“We put customs’ agents at the border, where every engineer who wants to go out is subject to inspection and we studied what he carries, which helped us to run the fields ourselves later”.
“We were only seven Algerians and the others were from Russia, Palestine, Iran and America”.
