Charter for peace: “Tens of terrorists eager to surrender”

The former Emir of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) and former chieftain of the Ennasr battalion, Abdelkader Rouim, alias Kada has affirmed that tens of terrorists are willing to benefit from the clemency provisions contained in the Charter for peace and national reconciliation.

  • The former GIA chieftain made this statement to Echorouk after a silence which lasted several years.

  • Abdelkader Rouim told in this connection Echorouk that tens of terrorists operating in the Boukhil mountains in the Sahara, in the Khalil region in Mali as well as in Niger and in other African countries were eager to lay down arms in order to benefit from the clemency measures enshrined in the charter for peace and national reconciliation.

  • He indicated that many of them were part of the “Moulathamine battalion” led by Mokhtar Belmokhtar alias Ilyes Abou Abbas also nicknamed Laouar.

  • This group, he said, carries out its terrorist actions in the Sahel region under the banner of the so-called Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

  • Rouim further underlined that he had recently succeeded together with Cheikh El Hadj Daha Zenani in the southern province of Adrar in convincing up to 40 terrorists to lay down arms and to go back home after benefiting from the provisions of the charter for peace and national reconciliation.
