Cherchell Military Academy Assault: 9 Suspects Arrested

General Prosecutor at the court of first instance in Cherchel has heard nine people over charges of providing provision and logistics to terror group which perpetuated the suicide attack targeting a military academy in Cherchell, in Tipaza province, 100 km western Algiers.

Eighteen people, 16 soldiers and 2 civilians, were killed and dozens wounded in an overnight suicide bombing at the Cherchell military academy in 27 August 2011.

The nine defendants were arrested by search and investigation section at the National Gendarmerie of Cherchell, on the base of accurate information concluding that they had been providing support to terror groups since 2006. They used to operate on the axle of Cherchell, Tipaza, Blida, Chlef and Ain Defla.

They spied on the military academy of Cherchell and provided terrorists with information on the movement of high ranking personalities. 

The defendants, of which age varies between 25 and 47, were sent to custody pending trial.

They are originated from the coastal Bousmail neighborhood, Tipaza, Cherchell and Oran province western the country.

The detectives of the search and investigation section have recouped 3 cars and 3 motorbikes which used to transport provision to terror fiefs.
