Chikhi: “I haven’t Met Stora Since Memory File Was Opened”
The Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of Archives and National Memory, Mr. Abdelmadjid Chikhi, said he has not yet met the French historian Benjamin Stora to discuss the issue of memory between Algeria and France.
“I have not worked with Stora. We had two contacts and he told me that he was writing a report at the request of French President Macron,” said the adviser to the presidency of the Republic in charge of archives after six months of the opening of the file related to memory between Algeria and France.
Mr. Abdelmadjid Chikhi said in his statement to the Algerian Radio “Channel 1” that his French counterpart Benjamin Stora had told him that he could not talk to him about the file before conveying his report to the tenant of the Elysée.
As for the memory file and the possible obstacles hindering his work, Chikhi explained that “for Algeria, everything is clear because the issues remain stable both in our documents and in our memories”.
“We as Algerians know what we want. We do not forget the past and we cannot erase it because it is an indivisible part of the life of the Algerian people through time. We want to return to our History and have it present in our daily life,” he added.
