Chinese Ambassador To Algeria: “Coronavirus Will Not Affect Trade Exchanges Between Algeria, China”

The Chinese ambassador to Algeria, Li Lianhe, ruled out any impact of the economic relations and trade exchanges between his country and Algeria, due to the Coronavirus, and explained that his country had taken all measures to confront the virus and limit its spread, and in the language of the documents, he said, “China won all the wars that entered into it, and we will eliminate this virus”.

The Chinese diplomat reviewed the measures that were taken by his country to confront the Coronavirus, which has so far killed more than 490 people, and said at a press conference, Wednesday, at the embassy headquarters, with several local media, including “Echorouk”; “We are working hard to combat the Corona epidemic … and with an objective look, we confirm that it can be controlled”, the spokesman avoided presenting a time-table to eliminate this epidemic that terrified the world, saying only that “it will be eliminated as soon as possible”.

Regarding the speed in dealing with the epidemic, the ambassador urges what he considered to be a global “miracle”, after the Chinese authorities’ success in accomplishing a hospital with a capacity of 1000 beds within 10 days, and revealed that a second hospital with a capacity of 1500 beds was completed in just 15 days.

” Very strict measures were taken to deal with the epidemic, they were greater than the risks required for this epidemic”.

The Ambassador played down the information that is circulating regarding the epidemic and confirmed that 20.000 cases are registered in China and are classified in the case of “light injuries”, with the impossibility of allowing the suspected cases to leave the country, to prevent the spread of the epidemic abroad, in addition to the death rates of “Corona” that has reached only 2.1% of those infected, which is much lower than the number of deaths that are left by the H1N1 virus and the SARS epidemic.

On the impact of the epidemic on the economy of China, which is the largest economy in the world, and on trade exchanges with Algeria, the ambassador said; “There is no effect on cooperation between China and Algeria. Trade and economic exchange will not be affected because we have strategic relations, and it is an important country for us in Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East”.

“China is working to develop the Algerian economy, at the same speed that we adopt in our country”, and he praised Algeria’s solidarity with his country and the medical assistance that is provided to the Chinese government.

The Chinese ambassador expressed dissatisfaction with the American position regarding the developments that his country is going through, and said; “The United States possesses the best medical capabilities in the world, but it did not provide any assistance to us, and it was the first that postponed its diplomats from Wuhan and its citizens from the city”.

He avoided responding on a question regarding Washington’s implication in the occurrence of this virus, to weaken the Chinese economy, especially since a major economic war is taking place between the two giants Washington and Beijing.
