Chinese Top Foreign Workers In Algeria

Minister of Labour, Employment and Security Insurance, Taib Louh, said Thursday that more than 76 thousand foreigners have work permits and employed legally in Algeria.

Mr Louh indicated that 76050 foreigners operating in different sectors, either private or public, have been recorded by employment offices in different provinces until 30 September 2011.

Foreign employees represent 1.05 percent of the overall waged workers in the national economic sector, the minister said, adding that such a figure is still “low” comparing to other countries.

Chinese employees top the list of foreign workers in Algeria with 21.962 employee, or 43.27 percent of the overall foreign workers operating in the North African nation, followed by Egyptians, whom number is are estimated at 4078 employee (8.03 percent).

Public works, construction and irrigation are the most attractive domains for foreign employees, as they employ some 17627 foreigners, i.e. 53.54 percent of the overall number of the foreign employees. 

The sector of industry comes second as it employs 69921 foreigners, while 208 only operate in the agriculture sector.
