A coalition of 14 political parties in Algeria has firmly denounced the July 3rd military coup which toppled democratically-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi as utterly unacceptable.

The coalition urged the Algerian government not to recognize what it called as the “putschist government” in Egypt in consistence with the provisions of the African Union’s charter.

A communiqué issued Sunday in Algiers, inked by 9 political parties most of them from the Islamist trend, strongly hit out against the military coup hatched against President Morsi’s legitimate government, saying that such unlawful practices were totally unconstitutional and opened the way for the specter of unabated violence, further turmoil and division in Egypt.

The communiqué also condemned in the strongest terms the wanton killing of scores of Muslims during peaceful demonstrations held in Cairo and elsewhere in the country in protest against the military coup that deposed President Mohamed Morsi who was fairly elected through the ballot box in line with democratic rules and procedures, it added.

The coalition also called for a swift return to democratic legitimacy and for the enshrinement of the Egyptian people’s sovereign right to choose at will their representatives at the various levels of the state institutions including their President of the Republic as well as their preferred type of constitution.

The coalition, making up these 14 Algerian political parties, finally called for the opening of a speedy investigation into the horrendous massacres of peaceful protesters across Egypt to be conducted by an independent inquiry commission.
