The Constitutional Council recalled on Tuesday the proper procedures that should be strictly followed by all the candidates vying for the upcoming presidential elections set for April 17th 2014 in Algeria.

The Constitutional Council stressed to this effect that the registration forms containing the required signatures must be accompanied by a deposit slip and a relevant Compact Disk (CD).

The Constitutional Council also indicated that the deposit slip, accompanying the registration forms containing the necessary back-up signatures, should be initialed on each page and signed by the candidate himself or by his duly authorized representative.

The Constitutional Council also noted that the relevant CD should be presented under the Excel form.

It also informed that the candidacy file should be deposited at the Constitutional Council’s premises after setting an appointment 48 hours in advance.

For further information about the various procedures and conditions for eligibility of the candidacies for next April’s presidential polls, the Constitutional Council invites all those concerned to visit its website: http://www.conseil-constitutionnel.dz/

Political analysts suggest that the Constitutional Council’s clarifying move is designed to defuse the controversy sparked off by a sweeping statement made earlier this week by TAJ party leader and Transport Minister, Amar Ghoul, who announced that incumbent President Bouteflika’s representative had already retrieved from the Interior Ministry the necessary forms for registration for next April’s presidential elections on his behalf.

However, such an announcement was later firmly denied by the Interior Minister Tayeb Belaiz himself who emphasized that no representative of President Bouteflika had come to the Interior and local Assemblies ministry to collect such election-related documents as asserted to the press by Amar Ghoul.
