Court to deal with “Algiers, the Capital of the Arab Cultureâ€
An investigation on the event « Algiers, the Capital of the Arab Culture 2007†will soon be terminated so that justice will handle the case, Echorouk has learnt.

Investigators work on the budget of some programs on which 7 billion DZ were spent. An e-mail had been sent to authorities denouncing a number of wrongdoings which were behind the departure of some officials. They refused to give the go-ahead on some programs due to their huge costs.

Sources say justice will soon handle the case. Investigators focused on books budget allocated to print 1,000 titles. More than 40 editors were not real and some books were of bad quality in terms of paper and printing.

Investigators are also working on films production and artistic shows which were not achieved but their budget were spent. Two officials resigned as they refused to approve some programs of the event.

According to judicial sources, suspects will be accused of public money squandering, embezzlement and counterfeiting. They will appear in court soon.

Wrongdoings were detected during the African Cultural Festival held in Algiers. Investigations were opened on the purchase of acoustic equipments, show contracts and hosts’ reception.
