Custom officer involved in leaking pistols from Libya within women bags
A custom officer was corrupted by arm smugglers.
Six to twelve years imprisonment followed by a fine ranging between 30 and 50 million centimes was the punishment ordered by the criminal court in Oum Elbouaki (east of Algeria) on criminals for smuggling firearms from Libya to Oum Elbouaki.

This gang which is composed of six persons aged between 22 and 28 years old considered selling the arms inside Algerian provinces.

In July 2007, security forces received information about an unknown criminal gang in Algeria specialized in firearms trade and smuggling of a significant number of handguns from Libya.

The gang’s elements were arrested after the main suspect Abdelkader had confirmed that he moved to Libya in June 2006 with his friend Moustapha. They bought 12 pistols at the price of 120,000 Algerian dinars. They brought them across the Algerian borders after hiding them in women’s bags and giving 12,000 DA to a custom officer behind the table.

As for the second suspect, Mustapha said t he moved with his friend to Libya to bye some clothes and gave a bribe to a custom officer because he had bought 12 guns from Tripoli, where he hided them in suitcases.
