Cyber- Gendarmerie Unit To Counter “Facebook Criminals”

National Gendarmerie has set up early this month a unit in charge of countering cybercrimes, including blackmail and defamation by using social interaction network of facebook.

Commander of the Research Unit at the National Gendarmerie told Echorouk reporter that the specialized unit is called “cyber-gendarmerie.” 

The source added that this unit is in charge of countering cybercrimes, through conducting “E- researches by E-patrols to counter cybercriminals and hackers tending to offense the private life of others and destroying websites of private and public institutions.”

The commander added that people are invited to file their claims to the cyber-gendarmerie, in case they are subject to cybercrimes.

On another side, lawyer Boudjemaa Ghechir told Echorouk reporter that the cyber criminals face sentences varying from 2 to 5 years, and a fine, depending on the degree of the crime.
