The Director General of National Security, Major General Abdelghani Hamel announced the launch of an “ambitious” program to shore up the security coverage at the national level of 80% currently up to 95%.

Speaking on the waves of channel One of the National Radio on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the creation of national police, Major General Hamel said that the Algerian police has experienced an important development particularly in terms resources modernization and working methods in order to fully fulfill the tasks assigned to it especially in the fight against various forms of crime while announcing the launch of an ambitious program to achieve national security coverage that would exceed the rate of 95% against 80% currently.

Algerian forensic units experienced a real “progress” placing at the top ranks globally among countries and “more advanced” ones in this area in the near future, said Major General Hamel.

Special measures will be taken by the DGSN in all the country’s ports, airports and border posts which will facilitate passenger traffic including Algerian emigrants and tourists visiting Algeria during the summer season, he further asserted.

The same security measures will improve the conditions of reception of travelers and Algerian emigrants by the relevant teams in charge of documents’ control at the port of Algiers during the summer season which will drastically lessen the control monitoring.

The DGSN will strengthen, according to its General Manager, border crossings and ports with 500 additional security elements for a better quality of service and for easing control procedures in the above-mentioned places.

Regarding the fight against cybercrime, DGSN said that cells have been established locally in addition to the central office of the fight against cybercrime. He stressed in this regard that there is no unfinished business for the services entrusted with stamping out cybercrime.

Regarding the use of the genetic fingerprint, every effort is being made to enable the Algerian police to occupy the first places worldwide in the fields of science and technology policy and the use of ‘genetic fingerprint, he affirmed.

Regarding communication materials developed by the DGSN to build confidence between the police and citizens, he stressed that “a policy was adopted to fill up all the gaps in order to ensure an effective and positive communication between police officers and citizens, “adding that these actions” have achieved the desired goal. “

Major General Hamel said that all necessary measures have been taken at airports and ports to facilitate the reception of members of the national community abroad “in good conditions” during the current summer season.

Referring to international security, he stressed that the setting up of the African organization of police cooperation Afripol was “imperative” and had been dictated by the international economic situation of the African continent, indicating that this security body is “a challenge for the future” for Africa and will be operational after the adoption by the African Union (AU) of its relevant legal texts.

All measures have been taken including the creation of a database in Algiers, he insisted. Afripol must play a dual role in “the exchange of information, data and expertise and training of all units of the African police forces.”
