Djihadist Websites incite Algerians to insurrection against the State

More than 100 cybercrime-related cases were recorded by the National Police in 2013 against 47 in 2012, said Sunday in Algiers the Sub-Director of financial and Economic Affairs at the General Directorate of the National police services (DGSN), senior Chief Constable Fayçal Hassani.

Mr. Fayçal Hassani said in his speech at the forum of national security on the best use of the Internet among minors, that 107 cybercrime-related cases were treated in 2013 against 47 in 2012, saying that this adverse phenomenon had gained momentum.

He also indicated that the security services had closely monitored several Djihadist Websites linked to armed terrorist groups prodding Algerians for dissidence and insurrection against the state adding that several cases involving some misguided people associated directly with these nefarious sites’ organizers had been identified and rounded up.

In addition, he said that 5 cases related to the exploitation of children in pornographic photos were recorded and processed during the year.

The Chief Police Constable emphasized that the largest cybercrime cases recorded in the same period was notably cases of defamation (28 cases) and impersonation and identity fraud (21 cases).

Police services also recorded 20 cases of piracy of electronic sites, 8 others to attack on the institutions of the State, 8 cases of blackmail and 12 cases of blameworthy interference in other people’s privacy.

Concerning the protection of children against cyber-crime, Mr. Hassani stressed the need to educate parents in the first place about the dangers of the Web stating that the Algeria had achieved great leaps in terms of monitoring and minors’ protection in this field.

Also among those in attendance at the forum of the DGSN held Sunday in Algiers, was Unicef representative in Algeria, Thomas Davan and goodwill Ambassador of this UN organisation, Algerian international footballer Abdelmadjid Bouguerra who insisted for his part on the need to alert parents about the dangers of letting their children surf the Internet without any control or prior advice.
