Doctor Loai Dib to Echorouk: Egyptian officials and businessmen fled from Egypt to Dubai with about 619 million dollars”
Renowned international lawyer and chairman of the world network for human rights and growth, Loai Dib who is based in Norway has granted an exclusive interview to “Echorouk” in which he sheds light on the latest developments unfolding in Egypt in the light of the unabated street protests against the Mubarak regime and the latter's covert collusion with the Zionist entity.
- —Reports say that Israeli military hardware has just been funneled to Egypt at the request of the Egyptian authorities, can you elaborate on this point?
- —In fact, our human rights and growth network has placed several trustworthy people in Cairo Airport to keep an eye on all those who flee Egypt with large amounts of money bound for Dubai or elsewhere in the aftermath of the anti-Mubarak popular uprising. In so doing, we also happened to know that three Israeli planes landed at Cairo Airport on January 28th carrying military hardware designed to be used by the Egyptian security forces to quell street demonstrations.
- The unloading operation was held amid stringent security measures and this weaponry was swiftly dispatched to the Interior Ministry headquarters in central Cairo.
- —How do you explain the Israelis’ refusal to comment on the affair?
- —The Israelis’ refusal, notably in response to Al Jazeera journalist’s question, to confirm or to deny such military supplies to the Mubarak regime is in itself a confirmation of the report as the Israeli authorities are overtly intent on helping the embattled Mubarak regime break up the street protests in a bid to ensure the survival of one of its key allies in the region.
- —But why did the US administration turn down the Egyptian authorities’ request for fresh military supplies to help them contain the widespread anti-Mubarak protests across Egypt?
- —Simply because, the Americans realized after a while that the Mubarak regime was tottering on account of the huge popular protests. They are now looking for a new leader who is not hostile to the US. Furthermore, there are about 40 US experts at the US Embassy in Cairo who have been conducting in-depth consultations over the past few days with several parties to examine the post-Mubarak period excluding President Hosni Mubarak himself who has ostensibly been left in the lurch.
- ––According to the figures collected by the world network for human rights and growth, the death toll in Tunisia during the Jasmine revolution which brought about the downfall of the Ben Ali regime was high…
- Have you got any exact casualty figures?
- —-The figures we have in our possession show that 86 people were killed and over 900 others were injured during the Tunisia unrest. 9 other people are still unaccounted for.
- —Do you have some information about the reported flight of capital from Cairo Airport to Dubai by Egyptian officials and businessmen over the past few days?
- —-Absolutely, in the reliable reports sent to our commission by some trustworthy people based at Cairo Airport, around 619 million dollars have so far been illegally taken out of the country by Egyptian officials and businessmen who fled Egypt on board 19 aircraft fearing that the Mubarak regime could fall within a matter of days or weeks at the latest.
- All of them have had close kinks with the beleaguered Mubarak regime over the past 3 decades.
