Draft bill on cyber-criminality prevention in Algeria

Algeria is expected to consider a draft bill on the fight against cyber-criminality Tuesday.

• The draft bill, which will be examined at a weekly cabinet meeting, will define cyber-criminality and the methods to fight it.  
• The government has been showing concerns over the Internet being used by terror groups to promote their crimes and recruitment among young people in Algeria.
• Lawyers say the Algerian law is characterised by a legal vacuum regarding the fight against cyber-criminality.
• The law would stipulate 1 to 10 years imprisonment and 5 million DZ fine against convicted criminals.  
• Earlier in October, national police chief Ali Tounsi said Algeria will train its judicial police in the fight against cyber-criminality in collaboration with the International Police (Interpol).
