Echorouk-British Council fruitful cooperation extended

The newspaper Echorouk and the British Council in Algiers have decided to further extend until January 2012 their fruitful cooperation agreement related to publishing daily English courses on Echorouk newspaper.


  • This cooperation first  kicked off in 2009 and lasted one year (until 2010), during which a  wide range of English courses with a set of questions had been published on the columns of Echorouk, and at the end of the year several gifts were allocated to winners, including I-pods, Play Station sets, MP3 readers and a Laptop .

  • Speaking then at the signing ceremony held at Echorouk’s offices in upper Algiers, the Director of the British Council, Jeremy Jacobson, revealed that the big prize of this year edition consists in an exploration trip and a laptop.

  • Mr Jacobson added that the stories which the British Council have been publishing in the UK, so far, have contributed to curb the hooliganism phenomenon among football fans, helped youngsters avoid delinquency and encouraged girls to practice sport.

  • He further added that those significant stories had contributed also in curbing racism in British football.

  • In this respect, the Director of British Council revealed that the majority of foreign players, Africans included, who joined the English Premier League said in interviews with the British Council that they enjoyed living in England, given that racism disappeared there 30 years ago.

  • The General Manager of Echorouk, Ali Fodhil for his part said he was proud that Algeria’s most selling Echorouk newspaper was actively contributing to the teaching and dissemination of the most popular language worldwide, that is English.
