Education: Foreign Professors in Algerian universities to improve the global ranking

Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research adopted a special program to bring foreign professors to Algerian universities for several specialities, in order to improve the ranking of Algerian universities regionally and internationally, and to improve the level of scientific training for students, as a budget and functional houses has been allocated for this program.

Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Higher Education, Arezki Saidani told Echorouk that the ranking of the university is subject of several factors, including the scientific and pedagogical processes and various research operations, as well as visiting professors or residents, pointing out that the ministry allocated a budget for this program and houses for the foreign professors who will be brought to Algeria, whether they are residents or visitors, and this is to enable the Algerian Universities of openness to global expertise and out of the local.

“The ministry has prepared a program which extends for the next four years (2014 -2017), and will focus on improving the level of training in foreign languages, especially English, Spanish, German, Italian and even French, and develop some other languages​​ such as the Russian, Korean, Chinese and even Persian”.

“Work on improving the ranking of Algerian Universities internationally is an ongoing and permanent process, as the Algerian Universities are linked by 1200 international convention with foreign universities, and over the past year, for example, it organized about 300 international symposiums, and hosted high level professors from 64 countries, as well as scholarships to train 200 Algerian students in foreign universities in the field of foreign languages, and the training of assistant professors and professors lecturers in foreign languages ​​as well.

Ministry of Higher Education has announced its desire to bring about 1,000 university professors from Spain with PhD and Master graduations, to teach in Algerian Universities in both Spanish and English languages, to raise the level of training and educational attainment in these two languages for ​​Algerian students, and required strict standards in their scientific and cognitive levels, as well as years of experience which should not be less than 12 years in the relevant field.
