Education ministry raises the number of proctors to fend off cheating in the baccalaureate exams

In an unprecedented move, the education ministry has decided to raise the number of baccalaureate exams’ proctors to 10 for each center instead of 2 in order to ward off cheating attempts from the candidates.

  •

  • The National Education Workers’ Union (UNPEF) has vehemently criticised the ministry’s decision considering it overzealous and will “ create additional difficulties for the center’s main supervisor in terms of catering, transportation and  accommodation”.

  •

  • The Union’s spokesman has indicated that the ministry’s move translates mistrust between the relevant supervision authority and the administrative staff, adding that “the center’s chief and his staff were supposed to be fit for this task”.

  •

  • For his part, the PR of the National Council of High School Teachers has noted ” the higher the number of proctors in the exams’ centers is, the movement inside the corridors and classrooms will be and will negatively impact on the general mood during the exams”.

  •

  • In a related issue, the Head of the Examinations National Office has allowed seven education unions namely; UNPEF, SNAPSAT, ASANTE, SNAPAP, SATAF, CNAPSET, to visit the examination centers and mention the irregularities, if there are any, to the examination central cell at the National office.
