Education Ministry threatens striking teachers with dismissal
A senior executive at the national education ministerial department, Abdelmadjid Hadoues, has threatened that those teachers who don’t forsake the current strike action and fail to return to work forthwith will be dismissed in line with the laws and regulations, as he put it.
He recalled in this connection that the long-drawn out strike staged by primary and secondary school teachers at the call of the Unions was declared illegal by the judicial authorities in a ruling issued earlier this week.
However, the widespread strike movement in the education sector has continued unabated for the past three weeks and relevant Unions have toughened their position in a reaction to what they called as the unyielding and irresponsible attitude of the authorities concerned.
They argued that the strike leverage would be pursued and bolstered as long as the national education Minister, Abdellatif Baba Ahmed, turned a deaf ear to the teachers’ legitimate and long overdue socio-professional claims.
