Education: “Preventive measures to stamp out creeping violence scourge in schools”
Regional education authorities have proceeded to the setting up of advisory provincial commissions across the national territory with a view to combating the ever-increasing violence phenomenon in Algerian schools through a set of remedial measures.
The various education authorities are now intent on stemming this nefarious scourge through preventive rather than therapeutic solutions in line with the well-known motto saying: “Prevention is better than a cure”.
However, the independent Trade Unions from the education sector said that the endeavor was important but its timing was inappropriate as it came at a time of a simmering conflict between the Unions and the education ministerial department over a myriad of unresolved socio-professional claims put forth by many teachers and other education – related personnel.
A Union representative, Messaoud Boubida, told Echorouk that fighting all forms of violence in schools was a positive move but the prevailing social climate was not adequate as the relevant authorities’ logjam policy towards the teachers’ legitimate claims had further exacerbated the situation in the education sector.
He further called for a bold and comprehensive action to check the adverse violence phenomenon in schools stressing that all parties concerned with no exception should pool efforts with the aim of making this endeavor is a tangible success in the very near future.
