National education workers mounted Wednesday a massive strike in various wilayas or provinces of the country in line with a call launched late last year for a an all-out work stoppage by the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE).

  • According to a Union member, the success rate of this general strike reached between 56% and 92% in the country’s various towns and cities as part of a campaign drive aimed at drawing the relevant authorities’ attention to the education workers’ long-standing demands.

 

 

  • The union told members to prepare for a protracted campaign, including hunger strikes if need be, and will continue the protest actions if the education ministry fails to meet their neglected professional claims. The union’s demands include a variety of increases in financial compensation, social benefits, and working conditions.
