The so-called G20 which includes parties and national personalities met on Thursday to talk about current political developments and the presidential elections due to be held in April 2014.

The group wants to establish an independent committee to supervise the next presidential elections to ensure transparency. Yet, authorities rejected this request, saying it can not be done.

According to sources, the G20 called on Algerian authorities to refuse receiving the Egyptian foreign minister Nabil Fahmi as his presence is Algeria would mean support to the coup power.

Secretary General of Nahda movement Mohamed Douibi said there will be other meetings by 2014 as the G20 wants to extend its endeavors to politicians who want to be honest.

“Authorities are confused between a fourth term or finding another person. This is due to the 2008’s constitutional amendment. This made it difficult to find an appropriate solution,” he told Echorouk on the phone.

He called on the government to set up an independent committee to supervise the elections.

According to Douibi, it is clear through the president’s state in the last cabinet meeting that he can not bear responsibilities.

Lamamra: those who want to isolate Egypt should be patient

Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra defended Fahmi’s visit, saying Algeria understands Egypt’s interest in the African continent and its role in the Middle East. “This shows how is important that Egypt recovers its natural place in the African Union,” he said in a TV program on a national channel.

He believes that there is a need for making a difference between domestic events in Egypt and its role at the external level.

“Algeria tries to contribute in helping Egypt to overcome its difficulties. Those who want to isolate it should be patient,” he added.

According to Lamamra, eminent personalities are working on a report to be submitted to the African Union. It will include decisive steps to enable Egypt to recover its natural place in the union.

“Frankly, Algeria should not be held responsible for this point of view. It applied the African Union’s decisions,” he said.
