Egyptian Football Federation member urged fans to attack Algeria players, says Choubir

Egyptian journalist and former player Ahmed Choubir said a member of the directors’ board of the Egyptian Football Federation held a meeting with some fans to ask them to attack Algeria’s national players in Cairo.

  • Sanctions imposed by the FIFA on Egypt following the fans attack ahead of the World Cup qualifying match against Algeria held in November 2009 condemn Egypt and all its people,” said Choubir in a radio programme.
  •
  • The FIFA banned Egypt from playing two matches in Cairo and 100,000 Swiss francs franc.
  •
  • Choubir expressed its anger over the Egyptian Federation’s joy following the announcement of the sanctions as it described it as “historical triumph.”
  •
  • The meeting shows that there was a will to harm the Algerian players and even to kill them. The size of the stones used in the attack was planned at the federation’s office.
  •
  • The Algerian players were about to be killed in the attack as they were severely wounded. The Algerian Football Federation should fill a lawsuit against Egypt for an attempt to harm its players in Cairo.
