English is the first language of Algerians
By surfing on the “Internet” and “Facebook”, Algerians have trampled down the French language and put it to a hard test, this language which has invaded them nearly two centuries in their own country before becoming a foreign language.
For proof, the French language is only used by the French, Belgians, Canadians and some Africans while English is the most used in the world. Even the French are massively extracted themselves from Voltaire’s language to adopt instead that of Shakespeare in their trade in the virtual world.
The English, in Web exchanges, did not come to supplant Arabic but trounced the French language and became the preferred language for young Algerians who use it daily. Besides, there is a great enthusiasm for learning in specialized private schools during the holidays and Ramadan, which is verified by the day.
And thus nowadays, there is a high demand for English language at the expense of the French language and this obfuscates the old and lingering debate between the Arab and French speaking people in Algeria itself.
English, the language technology and high-tech science has put everybody in total agreement because currently, students learn English from the first average school year as part of a reform which aims to revive the learning objective so as to put English in first position after Arabic.
And because the majority of multinational companies operating in Algeria, either in oil or other sectors, require proficiency in the English language, even the Chinese present in Algeria in the building sector speak English to be understood, because they speak neither Arabic nor French.
Something that will be consolidated by the opening in 2019 of a British International School in Algeria that will offer learning in English language, and will offer its enrolled students both the British and Algerian curricula.
This announcement was made last May by the Minister Delegate to the British Treasury, Greg Hans, representing the Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Since the announcement of the withdrawal of Britain from the European Union, the English language is expected extend its hegemony to other countries including the Maghreb.
Therefore, the English language that will increasingly overshadow the French language in Algeria and elsewhere, is the fruit of a close cooperation between Algeria and Britain for the promotion of the English language in Algeria.
