Enrico Macias still yearning to sing anytime soon in his native Algerian city of Constantine

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday with Aljazeera Sport TV Channel, French singer of Jewish origin, Enrico Macias, expressed his utmost keenness to sing one day before his demise in his native Algerian city of Constantine stressing that this is one of his most cherished dreams.

He said that during his planned tour of the United States, he would devote a large part of his music concerts to songs in Arabic with tunes in the Maalouf music genre as he did in a recent past in Canada during a previous tour there.

The Algerian city of Constantine is the birthplace of the Maalouf genre and Enrico Macias wants to be faithful to the cultural patrimony of his parents who were settled in Constantine during the French colonial period before leaving the country in the wake of Algeria’s independence in July 1962.

Enrico Macias also said that he had had a long-standing relation of friendship with numerous Algerians settled in France and elsewhere adding that he harboured a strong liking for Algerian music and culture.

He also affirmed that that he had now on schedule several Andalusian music concerts to be performed in the Gulf region notably in Qatar stressing however that his most cherished desire would be to sing in Algeria itself at the earliest possible time when the conditions are hopefully ripe, as he put it.
